SOCIETY/ Council 2021 election results

The advisory ballot for Council closed on 31 March 2021 with a turnout of 20.4%. Thank you to all who took part.

A total of 2173 valid votes were cast in favour of Ruth Allington for the role of President, whilst a total of 2,132 valid votes were cast for the other seven vacancies. Details of the seven candidates with the most votes can be found on our website.

All eight candidates will now go forward for election at the AGM on 25 June 2021.

YEAR OF SPACE/ Space themed poetry competition

Calling all budding poets! In collaboration with our Year of Space, this year's Micropoetry Competition from Creative Manchester invites participants to write a micro poem themed around space and tweet it with the hashtag #Micropoem21.

The first prize is £500! Closing date for entries is 21 June 2021.

LIBRARY/ E-book of the month

Our e-book of the month for May is Understanding Building Stones and Stone Buildings. Illustrated with 450+ diagrams and colour photographs, it covers the wide spectrum of subjects relating to obtaining and using building stones, as well as the historical sequence of architectural styles of stone buildings.

CAREERS/ Workshop - ‘Effective ways of mentoring and other best practices in the raw materials industries'

This free workshop is being offered by EU funded ProSkill and focuses on mentoring in the field of raw materials.

Moderated by Engineering Geologist Ruth Allington, the session will see longstanding mentors John Arthurs and Ratko Vasiljević sharing their insights and best practice.

The workshop takes place on 6 May 2021 at 16.30hrs CEST.
